Georgia Caucasus - Barisakho

My first climb in the Caucasus. Clouds hid the summit of the pass and as I climbed the rain turned to hail. Thunder echoed round the hills. Briefly the summit cleared for this picture. After a slippery climb to the top I was rewarded with level ground, a break in the clouds and these magical old sycamore trees. Beyond were more remote mountains, valleys and paths to explore.

It wasn't all scary black and white. On the way up Caltha palustris and Primula burst into colour from the snow's meltwater.

From the snow an Aconite,

and at the summit this unidentified 'bluebell'.
